The Friends of Ottawa Valley Recreational Trail is a group of Lanark citizens, mainly in Mississippi Mills and Carleton Place, who champion the development of a non-motorized recreational trail in Lanark (through Mississippi Mills and Almonte to Carleton Place) on a portion of the Ottawa Valley Recreational Trail, formerly the CP rail bed.

We are a group of community builders looking to develop a new economic and tourism asset in our region that promotes safe, physical, environmental, and improved public health outcomes for citizens of all ages and abilities. We have nothing against ATVs or snowmobiles only a keen interest in developing a new and different attraction that enhances the strategic and growth visions of Carleton Place and Mississippi Mills.

This same group of residents administers a Facebook Page on this topic, which has been in existence since 5 November 2012.
